Explore Peru in 14 was created by Nig Adventures, this package is a suggested way to see Cusco and all of Peru. These tours are not organized with a large group of people. They are designed for each tastes, interests and needs. If you have two weeks in Peru, a great way to spend your time is visiting the Amazon, Cusco and Puno for a visit to Lake Titicaca.  It is always recommended to spend two days in Cusco before your start your trek, so we included a city tour and Sacred Valley.  This is really great idea that not to be missed.  We hope you can enjoy the package explore peru.

Itinerary

ITINERARY – Explore Peru

Night 1: Welcome to Lima

Our Nig Adventures representative will meet you at the airport in Limas and transfer you to you hotel in Miraflores (it is also possible at the hotel next to the airport if you prefer).

Day 1: Flight to Puerto Maldonado

We will transfer you back to the airport for your morning flight to Puerto Maldonado.  PLEASE SEND US YOUR FLIGHT INFORMATIONS to organized the package explore peru. You will be met at the airport by your guide and transferred to a dugout canoe for the trip up the Tambopata River to the lodge. On the journey the vegetation changes from colonized deforested areas to virgin rain forest. A box-lunch is provided on board. On arrival you’ll have a welcome drink and meet the rest of the staff. In the afternoon frequently seen mammals on this trail are Saddle-back Tamarinds, Brown Capuchins, Agoutis, Pacas, Blue-Morpho butterflies, Trogons, Toucans and many other species of birds.

Finally after dinner a night walk to find nocturnal animals or insects by the eye-shine a specialization for increasing the light and see better, about 50% of the animals are nocturnal in the rainforest.

* Large luggage will not be allowed on the canoe.  You will need to leave your larger bags at the office by the airport and pack a smaller bag for your amazon expedition.

Day 2: Lake Condenado

After an early breakfast you and your nature guide will board the motorized canoe once again for the short journey to the trail head to begin a morning’s exploration by foot and paddle canoe of the lake system of Condenado, rich in bird and aquatic life. A family of Giant Otters lives in the vicinity of the lake and are often observed. Birds abound especially Rufescent Tiger-herons, Great Egrets, Wattled Jacanas, Hoatzin, the noisy Donacobius and many others. Remember to bring your hat and sun cream for there is no shade out on the water. You will return to the lodge in time for lunch.

The afternoon is for exploring the forest close to the lodge (with or without your guide), relaxing and bathing in the Gallucunca, a cool clear stream beside the lodge or visit our tree platforms, going up with ropes and harnesses for a bird’s eye view of the forest and for close-ups of arboreal orchids and the many other species of plants and animals that are never seen near the ground (extra cost). After dark you will go searching for caiman (alligators) and other nocturnal animals by motorized canoe along the Tambopata River.

Day 3: Hike to Tapir Lake

After an early breakfast you will take a short boat ride down river to the trail head. Here you embark on a longer trail which leads to a spectacular hidden lake, requiring the crossing of streams and swampy ground, past the giant Lupuna trees (kings of the jungle) which abound in this part of the forest. On the walk you are introduced to more aspects of the forest and its animals. At the lake itself it is possible to spot the elusive Black Caiman and Giant Otters. We return for lunch. The afternoon is free for relaxation and bathing.

Day 4: Cusco City

Time to return to the city of Puerto Maldonado is scheduled according to flight time of the group. In the mornings you can see the wildlife that is particularly active at this time, are frequently heard howler monkeys or stop. Your guide will give support to his arrival in Puerto Maldonado and will relocate to the airport and assist you on your flight.  PLEASE SEND US YOUR FLIGHT ARRANGEMENTS.  We will welcome you at the airport in Cusco and transfer you to your Hotel. The rest of the day will be free to explore Cusco.

Day 5: Cusco City Tour

Your afternoon tour of the city will begin at 13.00pm from your hotel and visits Koricancha, Sacsayhuaman, Quenqo, Tambomachay and Puca Pucara: all really nice Incan ruins. This tour ends around 6.30 pm and we will return you to Hotel.

Day 6: Sacred Valley 

This is a full day tour which begins at 8.00 am from your hotel and visits an Alpaca farm, Pisaq Market, Pisaq Ruins, and Ollantaytambo ruins. It will end around 6.00 pm with a return back to Hotel.  This evening you will have your briefing for your trek at the Alpaca office.

Day 7: The Famous Inca Trail

Today you will begin your Inca trail trek. After an early wake up you will drive to Km 82, the trail head, and start the trek. It will be an amazing day with very nice views of inca ruins, nice vallies and waterfalls and of course snow capped peaks. Walking distance: 14 km/around 8 miles.

* You can leave your larger luggage at your hotel or with Alpaca.  We will provide duffel bags at your briefing that the porters will carry for you.  Please make sure these do not weigh more than 7kg/14 lbs (including your sleeping bag and air matt if you choose to use one).

Day 8: Dead Woman’s Pass

Today we will survive the two highest peaks on the Inca Trail and get amazing views from the top of the mountains. We will also visit some spectacular ruins along the way. Total walking distance will be 16 km/around 9 miles.

Day 9: Winayhuayna

Today is the shortest day of hiking, but the most beautiful. We will only hike in the morning and then lunch will be at the final campsite. In the afternoon we will visit the most famous ruins called winayhuayna and will have plenty of time to explore. Today you will walk around 3000 steps down. In the evening you will say good bye to your porters.

Day 10: Machu Picchu

After an early wake up and breakfast, we will walk to the Sungate and then after one more hour, to Machu Picchu. You will get there around 7.30 am and will begin your 2 hour guided tour and will have plenty of time afterwards to explore on your own. If you have a Huaynapicchu ticket, your guide will direct you where to begin your climb. Afterwards you will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes and take an afternoon expedition (tourist) train at either 2:55 or 4:20 to Ollantaytambo and transfer back to hotel in Cusco.

Day 11: Puno city

After early breakfast, we will transfer you to the bus station where you will take the tourist bus, which takes a full day to Puno. You will enjoy stops along the way and visit some inca and pre-inca ruins with a guide. When you arrive to Puno, our representative will pick you up and transfer to your Hotel.

Day 12: The Floating Islands

We will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to the lakes port and take a boat to the floating islands of Uros where you will have some time to explore around. You will then take a boat ride to the next island where you will stay with a local family. Tonight will be a basic accommodation but very memorable as you will be surrounded by a nice family and have the opportunity to see how the indigenous people of the lake lives. In the afternoon you will climb to the mountain to watch the sunset and party with locals.

Day 13: Titicaca Lake: Taquile Island

Early breakfast with the family and take a boat to the next islands called Taquile where you will learn about agriculture and textile of local people. You will return to Puno around 4:30pm, transfer to hotel.

Important Notes

Important Notes to Read Before Booking Explore Peru 14d

1. Amazon tour 4D/3N is really 2 full days in the Amazon as the rest of the time is travelling. The first day you will arrive around 1 pm to the lodge and the last day after breakfast you will take a motorboat back to Puerto Maldonado for your flight to Cusco.

2. The City and Sacred Valley tours in this package are done in a group and with a trusted third party, not through Alpaca.  The group tours in this package are available as a private tour with all Alpaca guides for additional cost based on your group size.

3. After the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu, your train returning to Cusco will be either at 14.55 or 16.42 depending of the availability. They will be booked on the Exedition (tourist class) train, but can be upgraded to the Vistadome train for $65 per person. The Vistadome train leaves at 15.20.

4. Climbing Huayna Picchu involves purchasing a permit and is available for $65 each. You can climb at 10.30 am after your Machu Picchu tour and it does need to be booked in advance as there is a limit and only 400 people can climb per day. However, if you do not want to climb, don’t be frustrated, here are similar views from the Sungate.
